Detectives have released an image of a woman they want to speak to after a Tube traveller was badly injured when someone assaulted her.

The victim was about to get on the escalators at Waterloo underground station when another passenger pulled down a 6ft metal poster stand onto her foot.

They were in hospital for several days and required surgery following the attack on 13 February.

Police believe the woman caught on camera can help them with their inquiries.

A British Transport Police statement said: “On Tuesday 13 February, at around 7.40pm, a person was seen shouting on a Jubilee line train before getting off at Waterloo and heading toward the escalators.

“Upon reaching the escalator, the person pulled down a six-foot poster stand causing it to fall onto the victim and land on their ankle. The victim needed an operation and spent several days in hospital as a result.

“Officers believe the woman in the image may have information that could help with their investigation.”

Anyone who recognises the woman in the image is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 515 of 13 February 2024.

To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
